Sinaloan weightlifter Melany Montes aims for national team again

Chepe Zazueta Culiacán, Sin.- Sinaloan weightlifter Melany Montes Mokay will be participating in the upcoming junior qualifier in August in Tabasco. With the goal of being part of the Mexican U20 team that will represent the country at the Pan American Championships to be held later this year in Mexico. Luis Puerto, coach of the student from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, reported this and added that the chances of Melany making the junior team are good, as she has competed at this level before and has strong competitive drive. Melany Montes has had a great cycle. She has won gold medals at both the National Olympics and the ANUIES National University Games. In total, she has achieved 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals across these two events. Montes Mokay is part of the Águilas US weightlifting team, which recently won the ANUIES 2026 National University Championship in Guadalajara, Jalisco, with a total of 35 medals. The team is led by branch chief Jorge Huie Camacho, along with Jorge Huie Molinet and Jonathan Muñoz. For now, she hopes to maintain her current level and her recorded lifts, which are 100 kilos in the snatch and 120 kilos in the clean and jerk, to make the national team once again.
