Tabasco.- 10 members of the UAS Eagles weightlifting team are well-positioned to secure spots on the national team after their brilliant performance at the national qualifying championship held in Villahermosa, Tabasco.

“This event was very important because it marks the start of the process towards the 2027 Peru Pan American Games and the 2028 Los Angeles, California Olympic Games.”

“It was important because it served two purposes: it was a scouting event to assemble the Mexican junior teams that will participate in the Nayarit Pan American Games. It also served as a qualifier for the World Championships in China for seniors,” declared Jorge Luis Huie Camacho, head of the weightlifting branch at UAS.

In the senior national championship: UAS athlete-coach, in the 65 kg division, Jonathan Antonio Muñoz Martínez, took first place in snatch, clean & jerk, and total. He was also the best male lifter of the event, the Olympian Jonathan Muñoz.

“We are just waiting for CONADE and the Mexican Federation to finalize the lists, the members of the national team for seniors to go to the World Championships. But the work is there, the results we are delivering for UAS and my state, Aguascalientes,” declared the Tokyo 2020 Olympian. They also won medals in the senior national championship: Jorge Adán Cárdenas Estrada, first place in snatch and clean & jerk. In the 60kg division, José Poox Peralta, 3rd place in snatch, 1st place in clean & jerk and total. In the 85k category, Mauricio Canul Facundo, 2nd place in snatch. In the 85kg category, Juniel Muñoz Martínez, 1st place in snatch and total. In the 86kg category, Ángeles Cruz Hernández, third place in snatch, clean & jerk, and total.

Meanwhile, in the Junior National Championship 2026, a qualifier for the 2026 Junior Pan American Games in Tepic, Nayarit: Melany Montes Mokay, first place, with three gold medals in snatch with 97 kilos and 120kg in clean & jerk. Edzia Yamileth Rivas Rios, third place in snatch with 73 kg and 2nd place in clean & jerk with 95 kg. Oswaldo Bravo Alvarado, first place in clean & jerk and total, 2nd place in snatch. Finally, Valery Scarlet Joachin Gómez, second place in snatch and total, 3rd place in clean & jerk.
