TAMPA BAY IS IN THE WORLD SERIES! RAYS ELIMINATE CLEVELAND AND GO FOR GLORY
The Tampa Bay Rays have secured their ticket to the 2026 World Series after defeating the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in the sixth game of the American League Championship Series. With this result, the Florida nine achieved their third appearance in the Fall Classic, after playing in the 2008 and 2020 editions, and will now seek to conquer the first championship in their history.
The Tampa Bay offense responded in the decisive moments of the game. Richie Palacios was one of the protagonists, hitting a two-run double in the second inning, an action that allowed the Rays to take the lead and begin to tip the scales in their favor. Later, Jonny DeLuca contributed with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead on the scoreboard.
However, the hits that ultimately set the course of the game came in the final innings. Dominican Junior Caminero hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to make it 5-1, while Cuban Yandy Díaz repeated the feat in the eighth inning with another two-run homer, extending the lead to 7-3 and bringing Tampa Bay closer to qualification.
With their ticket secured, the Rays return to the biggest stage in Major League Baseball, where they have already been in 2008, when they fell to the Philadelphia Phillies, and in 2020, the year they were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now, Tampa Bay will have a new opportunity to make history against the Milwaukee Brewers, with the mission of achieving the first World Series title for the organization and consolidating a memorable season in front of their fans.
