HUMANOID ROBOT BREAKS USAIN BOLT'S RECORD
Human speed now faces a new competitor: technology. A humanoid robot developed in China has stunned the world by recording a time in the 100-meter dash below the historic mark of 9.58 seconds, set by Usain Bolt at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany. This advancement places machines in a domain previously thought to be exclusive to elite athletes, marking a turning point between sports and scientific innovation.
The achievement was presented at the 2026 World Robot Games in Beijing, China, where multiple prototypes demonstrated their physical capabilities. Among them, the model known as Lightning stood out, managing to stop the clock at 9.32 seconds with a top speed exceeding 52 kilometers per hour. This record not only surpasses the world benchmark in athletics but also highlights the rapid development of systems capable of imitating and, in some cases, exceeding human performance.
Despite these impressive results, specialists point out that significant differences still exist between humans and machines. Robots still exhibit flaws in balance, deceleration, and everyday movements, limiting their functionality outside of specific tests. However, the progress is undeniable: technological evolution continues to accelerate and is already beginning to challenge the boundaries that for decades defined high-performance sports.
