The Spanish goalkeeper for Atlético Morelia, Roberto Galán de Morales, reported to the Senate of the Republic that players from the Liga de Expansión MX and some from the First Division have received pressure and threats for demonstrating in favor of the return of promotion and relegation. During the discussion "Fuera de lugar" (Offside), held on September 21, Galán explained that he decided to speak out because several teammates fear labor retaliation, after speaking with captains from different clubs. According to his testimony, some players have been warned of possible financial sanctions or even contract terminations if they participate publicly in statements or protests.

Galán did not publicly provide the names of the players who, according to his account, are allegedly being pressured, precisely because doing so could harm them. The goalkeeper stated that he maintains communication with captains from different Expansión teams and with First Division players, who privately support the movement but prefer not to expose themselves publicly. A relevant fact is that, according to information published by La Jornada, the movement began in early August with a statement initially backed by 18 teams, but 10 clubs withdrew after their presidents warned them about possible economic reprisals or contract breaches.

The complaint occurs in a context where promotion and relegation have remained suspended since 2020, when the Liga de Expansión MX was created. Furthermore, players' protests had already led to sanctions against clubs: five teams —Leones Negros, Atlético La Paz, Atlético Morelia, Mineros, and Cancún FC— were initially fined 2,000 UMA, approximately 239,000 pesos per club, although those sanctions were later overturned by the Appeals Commission upon determining that the regulations did not provide for such a penalty for demonstrations. Galán also questioned the lack of support from the Mexican Association of Professional Footballers and the absence of representatives from Liga MX and the FMF at the Senate forum.
