SONORAN PRIDE! "YOREME" MENDOZA RETURNS TO HERMOSILLO WITH TWO WORLD TITLES
Sonoran boxer Sergio Alfonso “Yoreme” Mendoza has returned to Hermosillo as a two-time world champion after a standout performance in Chicago, Illinois. On October 10th, the Mexican defeated American Ricardo “El Niño” Sandoval by technical knockout in the fifth round, capturing the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight belts.
With this result, Mendoza achieved a historic feat for the sport in Sonora's capital, becoming the first male boxer born in Hermosillo to win an undisputed world championship. His victory places him among the prominent names in Mexican boxing and represents a source of pride for his city and state.
Behind this achievement lies a story of perseverance.
After suffering his first professional defeat in Japan and going through a difficult personal time due to the loss of his brother, the pugilist found the strength to return to the ring. Under the training of his coach Alfredo Caballero, he seized his opportunity against Sandoval and secured a victory that marked a turning point in his career.
Now, with a record of 28 wins, one loss, and 24 knockouts, “Yoreme” Mendoza faces a new chapter as a world monarch. Among his goals is the possibility of defending his belts in Hermosillo, in front of his home crowd. His return not only celebrates two international titles but also a story of effort, overcoming adversity, and Sonoran pride.
