MLS Maintains Dominance, Defeats Liga MX in 2026 All-Star Game
Major League Soccer (MLS) once again asserted its dominance over Liga MX, defeating them 4-3 in the 2026 MLS All-Star Game, held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Mexican team took the lead with a goal from Luis Gabriel Rey, but the MLS squad responded with a brace from South Korea's Heung-Min Son, in addition to goals from Philip Zinckernagel and Evander. Liga MX narrowed the gap with strikes from Salomón Rondón and José Paradela, though they couldn't avoid defeat.
With this result, both leagues have faced each other five times in the MLS vs. Liga MX All-Star Game format, which began in 2021. MLS dominates the series with four victories, having won in 2021, 2022, 2025, and 2026, while Liga MX has only won one edition, in 2024, when they secured a 4-1 victory in Austin, Texas.
Among the most outstanding players in the 2026 edition was Heung-Min Son, the star of the match with two goals in his All-Star Game debut, as well as Brazil's Evander, who was once again decisive in the MLS attack. For Liga MX, Salomón Rondón, José Paradela, and Luis Gabriel Rey were the goal scorers, although the offensive power of the American combined team ultimately made the difference, extending their hegemony in this rivalry between the two main leagues in North America.
