Mexico kicked off its participation in the 2026 Junior Diving World Championships, held in Rijeka, Croatia, on the right foot, securing its first two medals of the competition. The Jalisco twins Mía and Lía Cueva Lobato starred in a historic 1-2 finish in the women's one-meter springboard event, within Group B, corresponding to the 14-15 year old category, during the opening day of the event.

Mía Cueva took home the gold medal, finishing the competition with 335.45 points, while her sister Lía earned the silver with 335.40 units. The finish was extremely close, as only 0.05 points separated the two Mexicans in the fight for the junior world title. The podium was completed by China's representative, Xiangling Cheng, who registered 327.30 points, meaning the Cueva sisters surpassed one of the main international powerhouses in the sport.

The result allowed Mexico to start the Junior World Championships with two medals, one gold and one silver, within a competition that runs from August 21st to 28th on Croatian soil. The Mexican delegation has 13 divers and will seek to expand its haul during the following days; among the national representatives also highlighted are Suri Zoe Cueva Lobato, Adriana Elizabeth Torres Martín, Joshua Becerra, and Carlos Uriel Solórzano Parra, who will participate in various events of the championship.
