Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.- The Mexican U-23 Women's National Team made history at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games by winning the gold medal and becoming four-time champions of the competition. El Tricolor defeated Colombia in a dramatic final that ended 1-1 after extra time and was decided 4-2 in a penalty shootout, a result that allowed the Mexican women to once again stand on the top of the podium.

Mexico's path to the championship included another victory over Colombia, a rival they had already beaten 1-0 during the group stage, in addition to subsequently defeating El Salvador 4-1 in the semifinals to advance to the gold medal match. In the final, played at the Cibao Stadium in Santiago de los Caballeros, Colombia took the lead in the 118th minute through Ingrid Guerra, but Mexico responded at the very end of the match with Ana Mendoza in the 123rd minute, who scored the equalizer that sent the game to penalties.

From the penalty spot, Mexico showed greater effectiveness and won 4-2, securing the gold medal and leaving Colombia with the silver. With this result, the Mexican squad extended its historic dominance in Central American women's soccer, adding its fourth consecutive championship, following titles won in Veracruz 2014, Barranquilla 2018, and San Salvador 2023. Thus, Santo Domingo 2026 is marked as the fourth consecutive edition in which Mexico dominates women's soccer at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
