Messi Reaches 100 Goals for Inter Miami Against Cruz Azul
Lionel Messi wrote a new chapter in his Inter Miami career by reaching 100 goals for the club, a milestone achieved during the 2-0 victory over Cruz Azul in the 2026 Campeones Cup. The Argentine opened the scoring in the 24th minute, heading home a cross from Luis Suárez, to become the first player in the club's history to reach a century of goals.
The achievement holds special significance because Cruz Azul was also the opponent against whom Messi scored his first goal for Inter Miami. That goal occurred on July 21, 2023, during the Leagues Cup, when the then-newly arrived Argentine converted a free-kick in stoppage time to give the Florida team a 2-1 victory. Three years later, he scored against La Máquina again, reaching 100 goals in 115 appearances for the club.
Messi's 100 goals for Inter Miami are distributed as follows: 11 in 2023, 23 in 2024, 43 in 2025, and 23 in 2026. Furthermore, his goals are spread across five competitions: 76 in MLS, 14 in the Leagues Cup, eight in the Concacaf Champions Cup, one in the Campeones Cup, and one in the Club World Cup. In the final against Cruz Azul, Messi also contributed to the second goal, taking the corner kick that led to Casemiro's header in the 81st minute, a result that gave Inter Miami another title in their tenure in American soccer.
