Liga de Ahome Wins MLB Cup 2026 with Decisive Victory Over Veracruz
The Liga de Ahome, representing Sinaloa, was crowned champion of the MLB Cup Mexico 2026, in the 11 to 12-year-old category, after defeating the Liga de Veracruz by a score of 12 runs to 0. The championship game was played on October 25th in San Luis Potosí, where the Sinaloan team showcased their offensive power and secured a knockout victory in five innings to lift the competition's trophy.
One of the most outstanding players was pitcher Yael Cervantes, who limited the Veracruz offense to just one hit over five innings without allowing any runs. His performance was crucial in maintaining Ahome's lead and earned him the recognition of Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, in addition to winning the batting champion award. On offense, the Sinaloan players connected for 14 hits and built a decisive lead with four runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth.
To reach the final, the team managed by Deyvin Valdez, with the support of coaches Juan Martín Salazar and Francisco Castro, recorded victories against teams from Coahuila, Brazil, Liga Anáhuac, and Liga Colhuacan of Culiacán. They also defeated Liga Ferrocarrilera de Aguascalientes 1-0 in the semifinals, a result that paved their way to the championship. The 2026 edition of the MLB Cup brought together 24 teams, including a Brazilian representation, in a tournament that promoted the participation and development of young baseball players.
