By Juan Samuel Santana Chávez
Mexican basketball experienced a historic moment with the debut of Karim López in the NBA Summer League, where he wore the Memphis Grizzlies uniform for the first time. The forward from Sonora made his appearance during his team's 96-64 victory over the Atlanta Hawks, after missing the previous games due to a slight discomfort in his left hamstring, an injury that was treated with caution by the organization.
López spent just over 11 minutes on the court and, although he didn't score, he left a good impression with his defensive performance. The Mexican recorded four rebounds, two blocks, and one steal, showcasing the intensity and physical ability that led him to be one of the most promising selections in the 2026 NBA Draft. His performance was well-regarded by the Memphis coaching staff, who continue to monitor the development of their young talents.
At just 19 years old, Karim López took an important step on his path to the NBA, solidifying himself as one of the biggest hopes for Mexican basketball. His participation in the Summer League represents an opportunity to gain experience and convince the Grizzlies franchise that he can become an important piece for the team's future, while thousands of fans in Mexico closely follow the beginning of his professional career.
