JONATHAN ARANDA AND THE RAYS KNOCK OUT THE YANKEES AND GO FOR THE AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
By Pavhel Rochin
The Tampa Bay Rays have clinched their spot in the American League Championship Series after defeating the New York Yankees 4-3 in the third game of the Divisional Series, a result that completed their sweep on New York territory. Mexican Jonathan Aranda had a standout performance, driving in the game's first run with a single in the third inning, demonstrating his offensive contribution at an important moment for the Florida team.
The game remained hard-fought until the fourth inning, when Ryan Vilade hit a solo home run to give Tampa Bay the lead back, although Spencer Jones responded with a double to tie the score once again. The decisive play came in the sixth inning, when Víctor Mesa Jr. hit a two-run homer to make it 4-2. The Yankees attempted a comeback with a hit by Anthony Volpe that initially looked like a home run, but after an umpire review for fan interference, the play was ruled a two-run double, leaving the final score at 4-3.
With this victory, the Rays return to the American League Championship Series for the third time in their history, following their appearances in 2008 and 2020. Now, the team where Jonathan Aranda from Tijuana plays awaits the winner of the series between the Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago White Sox to find out their next opponent. The next round is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 12, with Tampa Bay looking to move closer to their goal of competing in another World Series.
