Gilberto Mora made history with the Mexican National Team by becoming the youngest player to score a goal for the senior Tri, after netting the 1-1 equalizer against Colombia. The Xolos de Tijuana midfielder scored at 17 years, 11 months, and 12 days old, surpassing the record previously held by Manuel “Chaquetas” Rosas, who set it in the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay when he scored against Argentina at 18 years, 3 months, and 2 days old. Thus, that mark had stood for 96 years.

The goal came in the 62nd minute at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium, when Mexico was trailing 1-0 due to a goal by Luis Suárez in the 9th minute. Jesús Gallardo threaded a pass to Mora, who, inside the box, beat Jhon Lucumí with a cutback and finished with his right foot to beat Álvaro Montero. The match also marked Rafael Márquez's debut as coach of the Mexican National Team, while Mora debuted with the number 10 jersey. With this game, the footballer reached 13 appearances for the senior squad, with one goal and one assist.

The new record represents another important chapter in a career that Mora has built from a very young age with the Tricolor. Before becoming the youngest goalscorer, he had already set other records: he was the youngest Mexican to play an official match for the senior national team, he won the 2025 Gold Cup at 16 years and 265 days old, and he became the youngest Mexican to play in a World Cup, at 17 years and 240 days old. His goal against Colombia now adds a new historical benchmark to his early steps with the Mexican National Team.
