SCANDAL IN TENNIS! STEFAN MILIĆEVIĆ SUSPENDED FOR 24 YEARS AFTER CORRUPTION RING EXPOSED
The world of tennis is once again at the center of controversy following the sanction imposed on Serbian Stefan Milićević, who has been suspended for 24 years for violating sporting integrity rules. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) determined that the 29-year-old player engaged in conduct related to match-fixing and must also pay a fine of $70,000, a resolution that effectively removes him from the court permanently.
The investigations revealed that the irregularities occurred between 2022 and 2024. During that period, Milićević was involved in the manipulation of six matches and in attempts to alter six others. The case took on greater significance due to allegations that he also sought to recruit other tennis players to join a structure dedicated to corrupting competitions, jeopardizing the credibility of results and the integrity of tournaments.
But what led the authorities to impose such a lengthy ban? The severity of the offenses and the attempts to involve more athletes were determining factors. Added to this was the player's lack of cooperation, as he did not respond to repeated ITIA contacts or attend the disciplinary proceedings. Faced with this situation, the agency resolved the case without the need for a hearing, in accordance with the applied procedure.
The ban began on October 9, 2026, and will end on October 8, 2050, when the player will be 53 years old. During this time, he will not be able to participate in tournaments, train, or attend events authorized by the governing bodies of tennis. This episode serves as a stark warning to international sport: illegal practices aimed at altering competition can destroy careers and carry consequences for decades.
