Mexican pitcher Gerardo Carrillo realized his dream of reaching the Major Leagues by debuting with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the game against the Athletics, played at Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona, on July 22nd. The right-hander became the 156th Mexican player to play in MLB and the fourth Mexican to debut during the 2026 season. Arizona took the victory 15-5, in a game where their offense widely supported the pitching staff.

Carrillo, originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, began his professional career after signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016. He later moved to the Washington Nationals as part of the trade involving Max Scherzer and Trea Turner, before joining the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, the franchise that finally opened the doors to the best baseball in the world for him after his outstanding performance in Triple-A Reno.

In his first appearance in the Big Show, Gerardo Carrillo worked two innings, allowed one earned run, surrendered two hits, struck out one batter, issued no walks, and induced a double play.
