Cleveland Eliminates Chicago and Reaches American League Championship Series
By Pavhel Rochin
The Cleveland Guardians punched their ticket to the American League Championship Series after defeating the Chicago White Sox 2-0 in the fifth and deciding game of the Divisional Series. The game was played on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Progressive Field, where the Cleveland nine responded at a key moment to stay alive and secure their place in the next round of the Major League Baseball playoffs.
The offensive star of the game was the Dominican José Ramírez, who hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, enough to make the difference on the scoreboard. From the mound, Gavin Williams had an outstanding performance, striking out 12 batters in five and two-thirds innings without allowing any runs. Cade Smith was responsible for closing the game in the final inning, while Sean Burke took the loss for the Chicago team.
With this result, Cleveland prepares to face a new challenge against Tampa Bay in a series that will define one of the American League representatives heading to the World Series. The first game is scheduled for Monday, October 12, at Tropicana Field, home of the Rays. Both teams will seek to impose their conditions in a confrontation that promises great excitement and in which every victory will be crucial to get closer to the biggest stage in Major League Baseball.
