Chivas became the new leader of the Apertura 2026 Liga MX after defeating Pumas 3-0 at the Estadio Akron, in a match corresponding to Matchday 8. The team coached by Gabriel Milito reached 17 points, with five wins, two draws, and one loss, including victories against FC Juárez, Santos Laguna, Tijuana, Atlético de San Luis, and Pumas; as well as draws against Puebla and Pachuca, while their only defeat was against Toluca on the first matchday.

The victory against the university team featured Santiago Sandoval as the star, who scored a brace, opening the scoring and later extending the lead in the second half. Bryan González, who returned after recovering from an injury, completed the rout in the 66th minute with a powerful shot.
