César “Chino” Huerta is back in Liga MX. The Mexican attacker will leave Belgium's Anderlecht to return to Pumas UNAM, the club where he reached his best form before moving to European football in January 2025. The agreement between both institutions and the player has been finalized for Huerta to play in the Apertura 2026 with the university team, after a year and a half with the Belgian club.

The 25-year-old winger's stint in Europe fell short of expectations, mainly due to physical issues and a lack of continuity. During his 16 months with Anderlecht, he only participated in 38 out of 84 possible matches, equivalent to 45 percent of the games, and accumulated 2,162 minutes, averaging 56.8 minutes per appearance. In his second season, injuries, including a groin issue that required two surgeries, further limited his participation; he played only 12 games in the 2025-26 campaign.

Huerta had arrived at Anderlecht from Pumas in January 2025, becoming the first Mexican footballer to wear the historic Belgian club's jersey. He will now return to Ciudad Universitaria with the mission of regaining the consistency and level he showed in Mexico, where he established himself as one of Pumas' offensive leaders and earned a call-up to the Mexican National Team. His presentation with the 'auriazul' squad is pending medical examinations and the signing of a three-year contract.
