Founded on April 18, 1916, in the Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City, Atlante is one of the most traditional clubs in Mexican soccer. From its early years, it was known as "The People's Team," as it was made up of young workers and laborers. Its historic blue and garnet colors have remained a symbol of identity since its founding, while its first uniforms were handcrafted from fabric scraps (curiously, in the two colors that give it its identity), giving rise to one of the most emblematic jerseys in national football.

Throughout its more than 110 years of history, the Iron Colts have won five league titles, three Mexican Cups, two Champion of Champions titles, and two CONCACAF Champions Leagues, in addition to representing Mexico in the Club World Cup. Among the figures who marked an era with the institution are Horacio Casarín, Cabinho, Miguel Herrera, Federico Vilar, Christian "Hobbit" Bermúdez, and Luis García, footballers who helped consolidate the prestige of one of the country's most historic institutions.

Atlante's history has also been marked by various changes of location. After decades in Mexico City, the club played in Querétaro and later in Cancún, where it won the CONCACAF Champions League in 2009. However, in *2014, it lost its top-flight status and was relegated to the then Liga de Ascenso. During its time in the Liga de Expansión, it won several championships, but the suspension of the promotion and relegation system prevented it from returning to the top division through sporting merit.

For the Apertura 2026, Atlante has finalized its long-awaited return to Liga MX after acquiring the franchise of Mazatlán FC, ending a 12-year absence from the First Division. The institution retains its essence, its traditional blue and garnet colors, and one of the most loyal fan bases in Mexican soccer, with the goal of regaining the prominence that made it one of the country's most representative and historic clubs.
