ARMANDO "HORMIGA" GONZÁLEZ DEBUTS WITH A GOAL IN EUROPE IN OLYMPIACOS' VICTORY

Armando “Hormiga” González had a special day with Olympiacos, scoring his first goal in European football during the resounding 4-0 victory over AEL Larisa, in the first matchday of the Greek Cup League Phase. The Mexican forward earned the trust of José Luis Mendilibar for the first time to start as a starter and responded in the 34th minute, when he headed in a cross from the right wing to make it 1-0 on the scoreboard.

The goal marked González's first official strike for the Piraeus club, in just his second official match since arriving in Greece. The 23-year-old attacker once again wore the number 34 jersey, the same he wore during his time with Chivas, and also played a significant role by being involved in the play that led to Olympiacos' third goal in the 54th minute, assisting Bruno Onyemaechi. In this way, "Hormiga" capped off a great performance with a goal and an assist, after having debuted days earlier against Asteras Tripolis coming off the bench and coming close to scoring.

Armando “Hormiga” González's next match with Olympiacos will be on Saturday, September 5, when his team visits Volos NPS in the Greek Super League. The match is scheduled for 9:00 AM, Central Mexico time, and will be the Mexican forward's third official game since his arrival in Greek football. After his goal-scoring debut in the Greek Cup, González will look to add more minutes in the league competition.
