Mexican forward Armando “La Hormiga” González had a standout debut in the UEFA Europa League, scoring one of the goals with which Olympiacos came from behind to defeat Poland's Jagiellonia Białystok 2-1 this Wednesday at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium. The attacker, who emerged from Chivas, appeared in the 43rd minute to capitalize on a rebound inside the box following a corner kick, leveling the score at 1-1 before halftime. In the second half, Roman Yaremchuk scored the winning goal for the Greek side.

The goal also marked a historic achievement for González, as he became the fastest goal scored by a Mexican footballer in his European competition debut, finding the net in the 43rd minute. In doing so, he surpassed the previous records set by Santiago Giménez, who scored in the 69th minute of his European debut with Feyenoord, and Diego Lainez, who netted his first European goal in the 90th minute with Real Betis.

At just 23 years old, "La Hormiga" continues to have a productive start since arriving in Greek football from Chivas. With his goal against Jagiellonia, he has now scored four goals for Olympiacos, in addition to registering assists in his early matches with the club, including goals in the Greek Cup. In the Europa League, UEFA records for González show one match played, 45 minutes accounted for, and one goal. His continental debut represents another significant step in his adaptation to European football.
