ARMANDO "HORMIGA" GONZÁLEZ, FROM HOPE TO THE BENCH
Armando “La Hormiga” González arrived at Olympiacos last August from Chivas, after scoring 24 goals between the Apertura 2025 and Clausura 2026 tournaments. His start in Greece generated great expectations: in the Greek Cup, he scored three goals in his first matches and later scored on his Europa League debut against Jagiellonia, in the Greek team's 2-1 victory. However, that initial prominence has faded as the season progressed.
The main problem for the Mexican forward has been a lack of playing time. In Olympiacos's three most recent matches, he accumulated just 47 minutes, while his competitors for the position, Marius Mouandilmadji and Roman Yaremchuk, registered 180 and 145 minutes, respectively. The situation is striking because González continues to deliver when given opportunities: according to the most recent records, he has four goals and two assists in 393 minutes with Olympiacos, figures that keep him as one of the most productive offensive players on the squad despite not having a fixed place in the starting eleven.
In the Europa League, “La Hormiga” has two appearances and 85 minutes, with one goal; his goal came in the 2-1 victory over Jagiellonia, while against Marseille he came on as a substitute and played 24 minutes in Olympiacos's 1-0 win. In the Greek Super League, on the other hand, he has yet to score in his appearances, a statistic that helps explain why he has lost ground in the rotation. Even so, his overall numbers show that the Mexican retains his goal-scoring ability: the challenge now will be to convince Alguacil to give him consistent playing time and transform his sporadic appearances into a more important role in the attack.
