ARMANDO “HORMIGA” GONZÁLEZ MAKES THE LEAP TO EUROPE WITH OLYMPIACOS
Armando “Hormiga” González has become a new footballer for Olympiacos of Greece, after Chivas and the Hellenic club reached an agreement for the transfer of the Mexican forward. The deal was closed at 12 million dollars for 80 percent of the attacker's rights, while Guadalajara will retain 20 percent of a future sale. González, 23, arrives in European football after establishing himself as one of the top Mexican goalscorers in Liga MX.
The "Hormiga" developed practically his entire professional career within the Chivas structure. He debuted with Tapatío, Chivas' affiliate, and later established himself with the first team. With Chivas, he has accumulated 84 appearances, 33 goals, and eight assists in his professional career, while in the 2025-26 season, he registered 24 goals in 35 Liga MX matches. Furthermore, in the Apertura 2025, he won the top scorer title with 12 goals, shared with Joao Pedro and Paulinho.
With his arrival at Olympiacos, González becomes a new member of the list of Mexicans who have played in the Greek Super League. Among them are Nery Castillo, who scored 38 goals in 135 games for Olympiacos and Aris; Alan Pulido, who played for Levadiakos and Olympiacos; Orbelín Pineda and Rodolfo Pizarro, both with AEK Athens; as well as Antonio de Nigris, Pedro Arce, Paolo Medina, Jordan Silva, and Jorge Sánchez, among others. González will now face the challenge of continuing the Mexican tradition in Greek football with one of the country's most decorated clubs, which boasts 48 league championships and 29 Greek Cups.
