Before becoming the guardian of the Mexican national team's goal, José Raúl "Tala" Rangel lived a life far from the spotlight of professional soccer. Born on February 25, 2000, in Zapotlán el Grande, Jalisco, the goalkeeper worked from a young age in various trades to support his family, including baking, where he learned to make conchas, mantecadas, and birotes. He also worked as a delivery driver, a helper in a brick factory, and a coconut vendor, all while pursuing his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

His perseverance paid off when he was recruited by the Guadalajara youth academy. After a development process that included moments of uncertainty and injuries, Rangel debuted with the Chivas first team in the Apertura 2023 and quickly established himself as a starter. In 2024, he set a streak of 599 minutes without conceding a goal, the longest for a rookie goalkeeper in Liga MX history, confirming his growth as one of Mexico's most promising goalkeepers.

At 26 years old, "Tala" took on the responsibility of defending Mexico's goal in the 2026 World Cup, becoming the generational successor to Guillermo Ochoa. His performances, especially a decisive double save against South Korea that secured the top spot in Group A for the national team, have positioned him as one of the key players for the team coached by Javier Aguirre. The story of the young man who went from cleaning trays in a bakery to becoming a national hero is today one of the most inspiring tales in Mexican soccer.
