Culiacán, Sin.- The emblematic 50th season of JAPAC first-division baseball will be remembered for the extraordinary performance from the pitcher's mound by Jesús Hernán Corrales Ontiveros, the right-handed pitcher for Linces UAdeO-MR Concretos.

Without detracting from the merits of what other notable pitchers like Geovanny López, Oscar Bustillos, Priscy Ramos, Daniel Higuera, Reydar Yañez, among others, have been doing. Jesús Corrales' performance stands out even more because he excels in a department that is in danger of extinction in modern baseball: complete games.

Corrales, who just turned 25, has completed 6 games out of 10 starts. His closest competitor, Geovanny López, has 2, and only 3 other pitchers have completed a game from start to finish this season.

These mound efforts have led him to accumulate ¡92 innings!. He averages 7.2 innings per outing. Even better, he leads the league with 101 strikeouts; he's half a hundred ahead of his closest pursuer.

Other notable stats for Jesús Corrales include his 6 wins, where he also shares the top spot in that department with Geovanny López, a 2.35 ERA, and only 33 walks in practically 100 innings of work on the mound.

“The knowledge and help I've received from my father, Jesús Corrales, of the same name. The discipline, daily training on the field, in the gym, changes in my mechanics, the advice, the great help I received from the Cuban coach, Bernardo Peñalbert, to whom I am extremely grateful, all that combination of aspects has led me to feel and be a better pitcher today.” Declared the student, who is also studying Physical Education at UAdeO.

The performances he has had this season have sparked in Jesús Corrales the possibility of trying again for an opportunity in professional baseball; where he has already trained with Toros de Tijuana and was signed by Tomateros de Culiacán.

“We are currently leading an academy at the UAdeO baseball field. However, I've been taking this season in JAPAC baseball as a demonstration that I can still pitch in paid baseball. What I need is that opportunity from the scouts,” he added.

For now, his fastball, curveball, slider, and changeup have caught the attention of the pitching coach for Mayos de Navojoa, former big leaguer Héctor Velázquez; however, there is nothing formal. And he is waiting for that opportunity with the Navojoa tribe or any professional team to be formalized.
