Chepe Zazueta Culiacán, Sin.- Olympian Jorge Adán “el Chino” Cárdenas leads the Sinaloa team that will participate from August 21 to 23 in the National First Force Championship and the National Junior Championship, in Villahermosa, Tabasco; the last qualifying events for the 2026 World Championship and the Junior Pan American Championship. Jorge Luis Huie Camacho, head of the Weightlifting branch at UAS, reported the above and added that besides "el Chino" Cárdenas, the participation of UAS Faculty of Economics student and national team member Melany Montes has been reconfirmed, as well as the young Edzia Yamileth Rivas, a young talent coached by Iriana Rivas and Jorge Huie. "Edzia Yamileth is the least known of the three, but she is a great talent. She competes in the 53-kilogram division. After being at UAS high school, this year she will continue at our University, now in the Faculty of Medicine." In fact, Edzia Yamileth has already been selected for the national junior team. The athlete, a recent graduate of Zapata high school, has been a junior Pan American medalist in events in Venezuela and also in Mexico last year in San Luis Potosí. "The list of Mexican national team members for the Central American and Caribbean Games is also pending. For now, we have 'el Chino' Cárdenas and Mauricio Canul. The possible call-up of José Poxx is pending," concluded the head of the UAS weightlifting branch, Jorge Luis Huie Camacho.
